Very poor consideration for guests. Had a Saturday wedding at 3pm but told must pay almost 1/2 price of the room to book in before normal 4pm. In the end agreed to pick up key at around 1pm but could not use room to get changed. Arrived after the wedding about midnight, but on going down for breakfast was told we should have booked a cooked breakfast the night before so toast only - very poor communication, could have warned us when we picked up the   read more

Comment From The Hotel Management:
Until now we have made it our policy to rarely respond to reviews good or bad. Rather we leave readers to make their own informed opinion based on an overview of the majority rather than a tiny minority. We respect that any guest review is subjective opinion and we embrace feedback and where valid we react to it. However we feel the need to respond to this review as much quoted in it has no basis in fact. At the initial telephone enquiry, we clearly stated a price for 2 rooms for 5 people would be a total of £135.00, which included continental breakfast. A deposit of £70.00 was also requested at this time to secure the booking, along with a check in of 16.00 hours unless other arrangements had been made with us at this time. All this information was included in an email sent following the telephone conversation and again on the confirmation sent once the deposit had been received. At no stage was an early check in requested, a deposit, price per room or continental breakfast disputed. 42 hours prior to check in we received a telephone call requesting at 11am check-in Saturday morning. We were fully booked on Friday evening and with check out not being until 10am we were unable to offer the rooms until 13.00 hours. However, we did offer an earlier check in of 13.00 for both rooms at an additional cost of £15.00 per room, but this was declined saying they would get changed at a relative who lived close by. We offered a ’free’ key collection and bag drop off at 13.00 hours which was accepted; however the guests did not arrive until 14.15 hours. On arrival, knowing that they were now running late for the 15.00 wedding, we registered them in and issued them their keys to enable them to return after the wedding. We gave them direction to their rooms so they knew where they were for their return later that evening. We showed them the breakfast room offering a buffet style continental breakfast on Sunday morning & there would be a selection of fruit, yogurts, a selection of 9 cereals, bread for toasting, preserves, fruit juice and a selection of teas and coffees. None of the guest asked for or mentioned at this time anything about a full English breakfast, which we would have happily cooked for them Sunday morning if requested. Guest information boards regarding breakfast are on display in the public reception area and also in each guest room. Everything stated above for continental breakfast was available on Sunday morning. There was never any conversation on Saturday or Sunday with any guest regarding a full cooked breakfast and nobody asked for one. They left their bags with us which we took up to their rooms once their rooms had been fully serviced following the Friday nights guests departure earlier that morning. The guests returned just after 01.00 Sunday morning following the wedding and having their own door keys, let themselves in and retired. Only 3 out of the 5 guests that had checked in came down for breakfast. They were welcomed into the breakfast room and shown everything on offer for the continental buffet breakfast. We asked if they had everything in their room, if they had a comfortable night sleep, if there was anything else we could get them and if they had enjoyed their family wedding. Apart from being tired everyone said that they were fine. We asked if the 2 remaining guests would be joining them for breakfast and they said no. We left them to enjoy their breakfast. Upon leaving the breakfast room we asked again if everything was ok and if everyone had plenty for breakfast. We received no negative feedback about breakfast or service. Upon checking out, again asking if they had enjoyed their short stay we had no negative feedback from either room. Another couple who stayed on the same night happily accepted and paid for their early check in. We keep the same early check in policy for everyone. Along with them and another single female German Guest who was in the breakfast room during breakfast service, we were fully booked that Saturday night. Interestingly, the person who actually made the initial enquiry and who made the booking was not in the party of guests staying. This person obviously didn’t communicate our information given to them at the time of booking. Strange how people only hear what they want to hear and don’t read information supplied. We are a Guest House and not a Hotel where you would have been paying much more money for Saturday night accommodation. We have been running this Guest House for over 15 years and know we offer a high standard of customer service and hospitality to all our guests, many returning time and time again. As we said earlier, we rarely reply to reviews, we leave readers to make their own informed opinion based on an overview of the majority rather than a tiny minority however; we made an exception on this one!

June & Harry Claydon Roberts stayed with us at Yew Tree guest house on the 3rd & 4th October arriving, checking in and collecting their key 14.30. A very nice couple who were visiting family in the Norwich area. We had very intesting chats each morning about New Zealand and the places they were hoping to see while in the UK. We had a warm and friendly welcome. The rooms were very comfortable, warm and cosy. We timed it just right as the Xmas lights were being turned on just outside the guest house so there was a lovely atmosphere. I was a little disappointed that there was no cooked breakfast! But overall we had a good stay.
