Offering a varied choice of pubs, restaurants and shops with a 9 hole golf course, bowling green, tennis courts and local coastal walks. Leave your car in our private car park - which is large enough for all guests' cars - and take the short riverside walk to all that Historic York has to offer. Visitors can walk along the ancient city walls, which surround the city, wander down the narrow mediaeval streets with their overhanging timbered houses, or enter the largest mediaeval church in northern Europe, York Minster. There is so much to see and do in York that we're sure that you'll return again and again. The outstanding location and the warmest of Yorkshire welcomes makes the Saxon Hotel unique amongst the smaller hotels in York. Friendly proprietors, Ian and Gill McEnaney along with their well informed staff offer a high standard of service, individual attention and a desire to please. Their considerable knowledge of York and the surrounding districts ensure that you only receive the best advice on where to go and what to see. An elegant stone fronted Victorian residence, the Saxon has retained many of its original features making each room individual and rich in character. All the hotel's 14 bedrooms include private en-suite facilities colour television, hairdryers, hospitality trays and toilet accessories. A full Yorkshire breakfast served in our bright and airy dining room is sure to set you up for the whole day. And after a tiring day spent sightseeing or touring, the Saxon's cosy cocktail bar and restful lounge with their inviting atmosphere are the ideal place to relax and meet fellow guests. York has a wealth of well preserved historic houses open to the public such as the Treasurer's House and the Merchant Adventurer's Hall, as well as a wide range of Museums including the National railway Museum, the famous Castle Museum and the acclaimed Jorvik Centre, the latter taking the visitor back in time to experience the sights, smells and sounds of Viking York. Other attractions include the great Race meetings and the Theatre Royal and Grand Opera House as well as a wide range of shops and restaurants. York is also an ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and Moors, home of famous Abbeys and Baronial halls.
