After seeing the photo's on the booking site and reading the glowing reviews, I was very disappointed by the reality. If I could give less than 1* I would.
After one night of the two we'd booked we've checked into another place nearby. We expected a typical Scottish guesthouse but this is more like a backpacker's low rate hostel. The shower didn't work, filthy room, broken fixtures, woken at 3am by someone ringing the doorbell, breakfast was inedible

We only had an overnight stay and this was in the annexe, the room was very clean and comfortable though. The owner was very nice and welcoming. I would have given top marks but for the fact that we had to walk over to the main house for breakfast - which was good and well presented. I would recommend.

We were made to feel very welcome at this friendly guest house. We had a large family room, nicely decorated, clean and warm with the usual amenities. Breakfast, taken in the attractive conservatory, was excellent with many choices. We consider it extremely good value for the money we paid and would not hesitate to stay again.

Within walking distance of the Castle, Balmore House has good architecture. Rooms were quite small and compact but there was good use of space and good décor. We had a good stay.
