Guildford Pleasant 6.2
  • "The price was very reasonable, especially for such an attractive, independent hotel near the centre of town. Décor could do with a bit of TLC, but everything worked for me. Walls were a bit thin, too, as we could here louder noises. Patio and terrace were great and easily accessible from our rooms. The staff were very pleasant also." Louise Upton Louise Upton

Guildford Fabulous 8.6
  • "Having travelled up from Portsmouth I found the Asperion Hotel on the Losely Park side of Guildford very easy to find. The room had a nice modern feel to it and was spotlessly clean. Superb en-suite shower, which was great both before and after work, a cracking comfortable bed and breakfast to go with it. Staff are polite and friendly, wi-fi was good and free and there is ample parking. All in all a cracking place to stay if on business or if visiting Guildford itself. Plus the added bonus of being close to the town and yet being so close to Losely Park." TGranger TGranger

  • "Would recommend Atkinsons Guest House for people wanting some peace and quiet. Not much to look at from the outside, but the interior is pleasant (if a little dated). Breakfast is included in the price and they’re able to make dietary adjustments. Choices of jams, croissants, toast, and fruit (all continental options). Very tasty and the service was perfect." • "A lovely old building near the Surrey Hills which after a few days stuck in meetings is the place to head for. I had been allocated a room in the main building which suited me perfectly, some may say it was dated but I personally liked the space and size of both my room and the adjoining bathroom. Breakfast at Barnett Hill was ample and tasty, dinner in Guildford may be a little to far for some 10-15 minute drive, but there are plenty of good local pubs nearby." M H Smith M H Smith

Bramley, Guildford Good 7.9
  • "Attractive flat near the centre of Bramley. 500-year-old pub next door is run by the same people, wonderful for a night out and good food. They provide a breakfast option, too, including continental choices and vegetarian items. The service was excellent, while we had access to plenty of parking, internet, and even a kitchen ourselves. Also, it’s pet-friendly. Very pleased." Tadas Kazakevicius Tadas Kazakevicius

  • "Having decided to book myself in for a night away somewhere local rather than get stuck in traffic. I picked the Radisson Blu in Guilford as London Road is only one stop away from the mainline station and from there it was less than a 10 minute walk. I can gladly say that my night away was blissful, the room was lovely and spacious, plenty of accessible sockets for phone and hairdryer, the bed super comfy and the shower superb. The hotel also had a lovely pool which was a the perfect unwind before retiring and the get up and go before breakfast. For me it was bed and breakfast heaven, for others I can only recommend if anywhere near Guilford." Ms T Granger Ms T Granger

Guildford Info

The Surrey town of Guildford, with its Saxon origins, is less than 30 miles from London. The town's main rail link runs from Waterloo Station in London through to Portsmouth and there is a comprehensive train timetable to various long-distance destinations.

Home to well-known writers and poets, such as Lewis Carroll, Gerald Seymour and Edward Carpenter, it is no wonder Guildford has a rich cultural history. The Electric Theatre presents theatre-goers with a busy programme of shows throughout the year and the 17th century Guildford House Gallery is worthy of a visit. Construction of Guildford Castle was started in 1066 and despite having fallen into a ruins, Guildford Borough Council purchased the property in 1885 and transformed the grounds into beautiful parkland.

Guilford Lido, Ash Manor Sports Centre, Guildford Cricket Club and the Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex all offer visitors and residents alike many fun-filled, energising activities; the latter featuring creche facilities, ten-pin bowling and ice-skating. Stoke Park is the dedicated venue for the summertime Guilfest (music festival) and the annual Surrey County Show in May.

The waterways, which were constructed many years ago, gave Guildford access to the Thames at Weybridge and commerce and industry have remained integral to the modern-day town. Brewing has played a major part in Guildford's industry in the past, as has natural mineral mining, but it was really the advent of the railway line that put this Victorian town on the commercial map. Coachbuilders, major electronic industries and just about everything in between, such as Greyfriars' Vineyard, on the slopes of Hogs Back Ridge, all contribute to the innovative hustle and bustle of Guildford.
