  • "Our room was huge! Also upkeep was great and design nice and modern. My husband had a conference and I came along for some countryside pleasantries. A thoughtful touch was the door which stayed open when bringing in bags etc. can imagine would be useful if disabled. Staff were obliging and kind. Would re-visit Holiday Inn with glee!"

  • "A big praise to staff in every department, outstanding efforts from every staff member we had dealings with. Our room was very lovely and sizeable, double bed primly luxurious in every way, sadly we didn’t have an opportunity to try evening food as we ate out but breakfast was bountiful and in abundance with variety. Mercure was a delight!"

  • "Some nice surprises like room service in the evenings and the breakfast was sizzling hot and tasty, our room was big, comfy bed and a very peaceful sleep with little noise. The surrounding area is very pretty, very nice location. Staff ran the ship with professionalism and care, wish we’d brought our dog as it’s dog friendly. Stayed for 2 nights and hope to re-visit Hatton when next in town."

  • "Everything was either satisfactory or good, location was convenient as a hub to explore the area and parking was made easy. Nice facilities for some relaxing and soakage. Staff were obliging and kind, always made to feel welcome. Corridors looked a bit tired, could do with a bit of renovation but rooms were of the highest standard. I could see us coming back certainly."

Staff helpful and friendly, room clean and comfortable, loved the Danish pastries at the continental breakfast, tasty fruit salad and all we’d hoped for. Communal areas of Hatherly Manor were well furnished. Keen on returning!"

  • "Not having been to Gloucester and the surrounding area before we also decided on looking to stay somewhere different too. We Came across Wharf House whilst searching on the web, it looked just the place as it had superb surroundings. We had two luxury King-size rooms which both had a bath and shower and had views of the river. Breakfast was superb but sadly the Wi-Fi was pretty poor, luckily plenty of places in town had good connections, so planning was done away from Wharf House."

Tourist Info

Saying a city has a unique history has become cliche - Gloucester however really lives up to its reputation. From its earliest Roman foundations to its stunning Victorian Docklands and right through to the cosmopolitan, multicultural gem it is today, Gloucester is a city unlike any other in the UK.

At its prime, Gloucester Port was one of the most important UK centres for the shipping of metals, corn, timber and wine. Today, dozens of historic warehouses and shipping offices have been converted into museums, galleries and pubs - all of which are alive with echoes of the past and a good dose of folklore. Gloucester's main employer for many years was the aerospace industry, and the jet engine was developed just down the road at Brockworth. Today it's the financial sector and retail that provides much of the city's wealth.

A little further inland from the Port, visitors are met with a heady blend of historic architecture and modern conveniences. Gloucester Cathedral dominates the skyline and carries a good 700 years of history in its massive columns. Nearby, Victorian tea room sit side by side with High Street chains, while chic wine bars are located just yards away from old-fashioned fish n' chip shops.

Travel beyond the city limits and the stunning Cotswold Hills are within easy reach, boasting some of the most stunning natural beauty in all of the UK. If exploring by car why not pay a visit to Cheltenham - a nearby town that is well known for horse racing among other things; slightly further away is the stunning town of Ross-on-Wye or how about Stroud? Another interesting place that's just a few moments drive away.

The region is perfect for rambling, hiking and mountain biking, but sports fans can also catch rugby matches, cricket and even American Football. The Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre dry slope is also open for a bit more high-adrenaline sports activity and is perfect for younger visitors with a bit of extra energy to burn off!
