Lynton Info

Devon is home to many quaint towns and villages that attract thousands of visitors every year and Lynton is a great example of such a small, welcoming Devonshire town. It can be found on the edge of Exmoor on top of a gorge that overlooks Lynmouth, which is easy to reach via the local railway. There are many shops, old buildings and cafes to visit in the summer months and Lynton offers visitors postcard-perfect sea views.

The Parish Church of St Mary is a big attraction in the seaside town and it offers wonderful views out over the sea. There are many hotels close to the 13th century church, as well as a few guest houses & accommodation establishments. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the nearby coastal pathway, while nearby Southcliff Hill is perfect for more avid hikers.

The primary sporting options in Lynton are the watersports, due to the town's close proximity to the sea. Valley trekking is also popular, as are hiking, horse riding and caving in the nearby Exmoor National Park. Exeter is located around 50 miles away and hosts Devon's largest football club, while nearby Ilfracombe is home to the Ilfracombe Rugby Union Club as well as a cricket club.

Lynton's primary industry is tourism, which is driven by visitors' interest in the town's sea views and wide range of accommodation options. Many visitors also come hereon day trips from nearby towns. Locals who are not employed in the tourism sector are usually involved in local agriculture, another important industry in the area.
