  • " Great weekend at Queen Guesthouse, a good location to Durham town, and lovely staff. Had a great room with a huge comfy bed, modern bathroom, and a nice little kitchenette. A continental breakfast was a good start to the day. We thought it was very good value. " Lynette Lynette Review Score; 9.5/10

  • "The location is excellent, centrally located, within walking distance to everything local. Our room was very comfortable and spacious with a river view. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice. There are leisure facilities, pool and gym, although we didn't make use of them. All the staff very friendly and helpful. We would be happy to stay again if and when we are back in Durham. " Sonia Langley Sonia Langley Review Score; 5.2/10

  • "In a quiet area close to the city, a nice hotel, at present with building work for a new Spa centre. Our room was traditionally furnished and decorated, the bathroom modern, both very clean, but no extra touches. The buffet breakfast has good continental choices. It was a quiet and comfortable stay and we will probably re-visit when all the work is complete." TheReids TheReids Review Score; 6.5/10

  • "Stayed here at Bowburn Hall for a friends wedding last month and just have to say the staff were fantastic and so was the breakfast. The whole event went like clockwork and the couple had a fantastic weekend as did we. Hopefully the new management will do something with the dated interior as we'd love to come back and visit nearby Durham, other than that we couldn't fault our stay." About Durham

Must-see attractions in Durham include the well-preserved Norman castle, one of the best examples in the country, and the spectacular cathedral, which has been named as a World Heritage Site along with the castle. Other cultural attractions that should not be missed include the city's Oriental Museum. Just outside of the city, the Beamish Museum transports visitors back hundreds of years while the surrounding Durham Dales, North Pennines and the Heritage Coast offer fantastic days out in the countryside.

This amazing city is home to a number of leisure centres and swimming pools, offering visitors a wealth of sports and leisure options. In addition, the fantastic landscape around the city provides an excellent setting for outdoor pursuits such as cycling, walking and outdoor adventure sports.

The surrounding area is one of the most productive manufacturing regions in the country and it exports a very high proportion of its manufactured goods in comparison to other regions in the UK. Other industries also play an important role in the local economy, including tourism and construction and retail, all of which provide employment for a large number of local residents.
