Fowey (pronounced foy) is in the south of Cornwall right at the entrance to the River Fowey. It is an absolutely stunning old fishing town that dates back to medieval times in the 12th century with a scattering of Fowey B&B's. its also the largest town in between Falmouth and Plymouth. It also had a role during World War 2 as this was one of the ports that supplied ammunition to Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. There is so much to enjoy when visiting Fowey that the likelihood is you'll be spending your time trying to figure out how to fit it all in. When you come and visit Fowey its best to stay at one of the amazing Fowey B&B's so as to make sure that you are making the most of your time there.
One of the must-see attractions that Fowey has to offer has to be St Catherine's Castle which was built by Henry the 8th so as to help defend the estuary from any that wished to attack. It can be rather tricky to get to as you have to walk up a bit of a difficult path but it is very much worth it when you get there. If you don't feel like traversing the path then you could always take the boat that goes along the river and that way you will be able to get a wonderful look at it that way. It is an essential part of English History so make sure to give it a visit when staying at a Fowey B&B or other establishment type.
It is also recommended that you visit Readymoney Cove. It is a beach that is only a short walk from the centre of Fowey and it is the perfect place to relax and unwind or maybe even go for a swim while you are there. During the summer there is also a café where you will get some amenities while you are there. Fowey is a great place to bring the family as it is incredibly safe and friendly, so bring the kids and have a terrific day at the beach. After a lovely day of chilling and a bit of swimming, you can then head back to your wonderful Fowey B&B so that you can put your feet up and enjoy the hard-earned peace and quiet.
Make sure to also check out the local museum and aquarium. The museum is great for understanding and learning about local history especially regarding Daphne De Maurier the writer who used to live there. The local aquarium is there to educate people on the local fish and marine life that live in the Fowey area. So, these two together will give you a much better understanding of what its like to live in Fowey. There really is so much to see and do in Fowey that the best thing that can be recommended is going and visiting the place, its hard to fully put into words just how magical it is to visit and stay at any of the Fowey B&B's.
