Originally founded by the Romans and located on the banks of the River Mersey, a river with a deep cultural resonance within the area, Warrington is a town that offers something for everyone. Whilst not traditionally known for its tourist trade, there are many places of interest and lots to see and do,and this complex little town is full of secrets and surprises.
The town grew rapidly during the industrial revolution, helped by its excellent transport links with easy access to both Liverpool to the west and Manchester to the east. There was rapid growth again in the latter half of the 20th Century, and despite its proximity to other larger cities, it is a popular shopping destination with plenty of high street names as well as independent traders. There are also art galleries, museums and historic monuments to visit, such as the Parr Hall and the Pyramid Arts Centre.
Warrington is fiercely proud of its rugby league side, the Warrington Wolves, who are the only team to have played every season in the top division of rugby league. The town also possesses other clubs and societies in sports such as rowing, basketball and speedway.
The town also boasts some high quality entertainment, with restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs providing something to everyone's taste.
