Description:
Yalbury Cottage, in the small hamlet of Lower Bockhampton, dates back 300 years and was once home to the local shepherd and the keeper of the water meadows. Though surrounded by green fields and woodland, we are just two miles from Dorchester and there is ample car parking space.
Bockhampton was the inspiration for the village of Mellstock in Thomas Hardy's Under the Greenwood Tree, and we are a short walk from his birthplace. There are many other places of interest nearby, including castles, gardens, stately homes, picturesque villages and Dorset's magnificent coastline.
THE BEDROOMS:
We have eight spacious rooms, in the modern part of the building, decorated in a simple cottage style. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower, a direct dial telephone, a television with built-in DVD player, hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities. We also have a free DVD library so you can relax with a favourite film after dinner.
THE LOUNGE & RESTAURANT:
Situated in the oldest part of the cottage, these rooms are full of character, with oak-beamed ceilings, inglenook fireplaces and exposed stone walls. The restaurant offers excellent cuisine and reasonably priced wines, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The lounge and restaurant provide the perfect setting for an intimate dinner, private lunch party or family celebration.
HOW TO FIND US:
Yalbury Cottage is two miles east of Dorchester. Take the B3150 out of Dorchester and at the roundabout, take the second exit. Continue straight ahead onto Hollow Hill, and after a third of a mile turn right into Bockhampton Lane. Yalbury Cottage is just over 400 yards on the left.
From London take the M3, then the M27, then the A31 and then the A35 to Dorchester. Turn left at Cuckoo Lane Junction to Higher and Lower Bockhampton. After approximately one mile you will come to a crossroads, go straight across and Yalbury Cottage is
just over 400 yards on the left.

Very picturesque accommodation tasefully decorated- low ceilings were something of a hazard to my 6'5'' tall son. Supurb breakfast.
