Across the Firth, lies the Orkney Island of Hoy with the much-publicised Old Man of Hoy clearly visible at its western extremity.
The Weigh Inn, refurbished to the highest standards boast 16 STB 3 Star Deluxe Bedrooms, 20 Superior Lodges and 22 Standard Lodges with 3 Bars, Function and Conference Suites. Within the hotel there are 16 ensuite Deluxe Bedrooms all recently refurbished to the highest standards. Many of the spacious rooms have views overlooking Scrabster Bay and beyond towards the Orkney Islands.
The Lodges, with ensuite bath/shower rooms, situated within the 2 acres of well appointed hotel grounds, also boast televisions and tea/coffee making facilities. In addition, some of the Superior Lodges have the option of self-catering with a microwave and fridge within the Lodge.
Most Lodges are Smoking Rooms.
Thurso, the most northerly town on the Scottish mainland, is a busy cosmopolitan and self sufficient community of over 10,000 people situated at the mouth of the river Thurso. It traces its origins and takes its name from the old viking language, when it was named THOR-SAA, which translated means Thunder River. This presumably refers to the wild wintry days, which can sometimes hit the North of Scotland, and we can only presume that the Vikings must have invaded this particular place on such a day.
