Description:
Twitch Nook stands in the corner of a field, hence its name. We have a double, twin and single rooms. Ashover is renowned as a very pretty village nestling on the edge of the Peak District national park, with four country pubs for those that enjoy a pint. It has a history going back hundreds of years but is now an agricultural area, the home to cattle and sheep. The village hosts a large agricultural show, one of the largest one-day shows in England, in August every year, which is attended by people from all over Great Britain. "A real country day out" ends with the tug of war between local teams.
We are within three miles of the spa town of Matlock with its spectacular scenery and rich industrial heritage, represented by the ancient caverns and the mining museum. Children will be delighted by the Gullivers Kingdom theme park. You can take the cable car to the Heights of Abraham and walk gently down to Matlock Bath with its holiday atmosphere.
There is good walking country close by for the energetic with some circular walks quite close to the house, so bring your boots! Isn't it odd that most of these circular walks end at a pub?
There is an excellent selection of historic houses in the area. This includes the mediaeval Haddon Hall, the world renowned palace of the peak Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for many years.
Anyone with an interest in history will find the village of Eyam a must. It is famous as the "plague village" from the Great Plague of the 17th century.
How to find Twitch Nook
From Chesterfield :
Take the A61 signed Derby. At the traffic lights turn right onto the A632 signed Matlock. Go up the hill, past the Three Horse Shoes (at the hill top) on the right. Go over the crossroads. After 300 yards turn right onto Hardwick Lane. There is a tree at the lane end. Look out for our B & B signs. Twitch Nook is the first house on the left.
From Matlock:
Take the A632 signed Chesterfield. Go past the golf club, down a steep hill and ascend the other side of the hill through Kelstedge. After approximately 1 mile you will see the B & B signs. Turn left onto Hardwick Lane. Twitch Nook is the first house on the left.
