Thornton Country Retreat B&B (formerly known as Denbigh Farm), was built in 1889 and is the old Thornton State School. The old school has had extensions at both ends but the original two school rooms remain just as they were when children attended school here. The walls and ceilings are tongue and grooved and are 15 feet in height. Tastefully restored, the extra rooms blend in beautifully and do not in any way detract from the original building. Walk back in time and imagine if the walls could talk.

Accommodation in the old school is our Executive Suite and this comprises a queen size room with built-ins opening onto a large front verandah via French doors, private sitting room, large bathroom with claw foot bath and separate shower, and a very large lounge area. Your Executive Suite offers a large TV/DVD/Video, Organ, small TV/Video, stereo (old records and tapes), coffee & tea making facilities, fridge, air-conditioning. The bathroom has all modern conveniences and bathrobes are provided.

You could always consider staying in the self contained garden cottage. This beautiful cottage is delightfully designed and tastefully decorated. High cathedral ceilings and wood panelling complement the old school doors and windows. Relax on front and rear screen enclosed verandahs. Facilities include a kitchenette, lounge and reading area, dining area, queen size bed, wonderful ensuite with claw foot bath, air-conditioning and fans. The bathroom has all modern conveniences and bathrobes are provided.

Breakfast can be as much or as little as you wish - there is a vast array of dishes to have from continental to fully cooked and is included in your room rate. You may book without breakfast should you choose (as in the cottage).
