Steeped in History
The Oldest building in Stow-on-the-Wold, and said to be the oldest Inn in England, the Royalist Hotel dates back to circa 947AD. A Grade II listed building, timers from the hotel have been carbon dated at over a thousand years old.
Over this thousand year history, the inn has seen many alterations, but still retains many of its original features. These include the 'witch marks' etched into the restaurant's fireplace, said to ward off evil sprits, a medieval frieze, and a leper pit in the oldest part of the cellar.
Intimate Bedrooms
The Royalist has 14 bedrooms, ranging from the cozy and eccentric Porch Room, to the dramatic Maugersbury Suite with high vaulted ceilings, and upstairs Jacuzzi bathroom.
