RYE:
The ancient town of Rye is just a mile away. Rye is full of charm and steeped in history and ancient tradition. Stranded on a hill top, trapped centuries ago by the sea, Rye was once bustling wiht merchants, sailors, pirates and smugglers. Although the sea has since retreated the town is almost encircled by three rivers and so retains its maritime atmosphere. There are breathtaking views across the Romney Marsh and wonderful houses and shops from every period jostle together along the narrow cobbled streets. Rye has always provided inspiration for craftsmen, painters and writers and its potteries, galleries and antique shops are not to be missed.
