Description:
Set in some of the finest breathtaking scenery, Shap Wells Hotel is ideally situated to explore the English Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, North Pennines and the Scottish Borders. Local attractions include: stately homes, country houses and romantic ruins; museums reflecting life in the district past and present; historic transport - steam boats, steam trains & classic coaches; quiet country towns and pretty villages.
Five of our bedrooms are on the ground floor, two of these, a twin and a double bedded room, are specially adapted to meet the needs of wheelchair users. Access to all these rooms is off the hotel court yard and separate from the main hotel entrance. In the hotel most rooms are now accessible by a recently installed scenic lift. Guests are advised to check that we are able to meet their specific requirements before making a reservation.
The extensive lounge and bar facilities, alive with the hum of activity or restfulness, play host to hundreds of guests most days: each enjoying its own unique character; from the Victorian front lounge (right) with blazing log fire, to the glitzy art deco Birbeck Restaurant.
Shap Wells has extensive lounges with bar facilities, one of which, the Riverside Lounge (Shown left), overlooks the river Birkbeck and fells. The Salterwath Lounge is designated a no smoking area and the adjoining Fell Bar is a 'pub' type bar with pool table and juke box. There is entertainment in one of the bars two or three times each week during the summer months. Log fires are a feature of the Foyer and Salterwath Lounges in the winter.
Our bars are well stocked with a good range of beverages, and our drinks prices are kept in the same range as the local Cumbrian pubs. Our wine list offers an imaginative selection of wines from around the world. The emphasis is on friendly attentive service in a busy yet informal atmosphere.
Our reputation for food is envied by other hotels in the Lake District. We serve fresh, wholesome, well presented menus, specialising in serving large numbers with meals that are enjoyable and which are served efficiently and with as little fuss as possible. Our menus are varied and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of our guests.
Situated in a secluded valley high in the Shap Fells, yet less than 5 minutes from the M6 motorway, Shap Wells is an ideal location for business and pleasure. Neighbouring cities like Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, and Newcastle are all no more than two hours away.
