Description:
Traditional comfort, natural skilled cooking and stunning ocean views at a Georgian manse in the Outer Hebrides.
The views from Scarista House, a Georgian former Manse, are stunning: the ocean, heather-covered mountains, and a three-mile long shell sand beach. It is one of the most beautiful and remote places to stay in Britain.
At Scarista House we offer traditional comfort in well-furnished guest rooms as well as natural, skilled cooking and good wines in the dining room. We also have 2 self catering cottages in the purpose built Glebe House. Scarista House is owned by Neil King, Patricia Martin and Tim Martin, and is run by the proprietors Tim and Patricia Martin.
Our bedrooms have en-suite bathroms and are comfortably furnished and decorated to reflect the period of the house. There are books, antiques, pictures and prints throughout. Three bedrooms are in the main house, and two more rather larger rooms occupy the purpose-built, adjacent Glebe Building. As a result they have, if anything, better views, although the sea and hills can be seen from all the rooms. There are direct-dial phones, tea-making equipment, hair-dryers, books and magazines in all bedrooms.
This is an old house and none of our guest rooms is very large, but we think thet they are interesting, comfortable and well appointed. The library has an open fire, lots of books, and plenty of CDs. This is the room that the resident cat, Max, likes to occupy. Guests often take afternoon tea, drinks or coffee in his company.
Cats and dogs are excluded from the comfortable drawing room, where there is another open fire. The view of the ocean from the writing table in the window of this room is one of the best in the house.
Children are welcome, and we can usually arrange for a cot or a small bed to be put up in a bedroom. children can be given an early evening meal in the kitchen or dining room, and may help prepare their meal if they wish.
You are welcome to bring your pets to Scarista House by prior arrangement. Rooms in the Glebe building are especially suitable for guests with dogs as they are so easily accesible from the grounds. There is no television at Scarista House.
