Description:
Enter into the Victorian splendour of Sawrey House Country Hotel. Here service, quality and an atmosphere of hospitality blend to provide an idyllic holiday retreat for both the lively and the lazy. The House stands proudly in slate hewn from the very fells it overlooks and occupies a prestigious place in the centre of the Southern Lakeside National Park in the lovely village of Near Sawrey. A village where only yards away Beatrix Potter spent much of her life and where still stands her charming home, Hilltop.

Few Lakeland villages offer the same perfect balance of peace, beauty, history and centrality to the region. As you approach the House you will begin to appreciate why few hotels can offer as much as Sawrey House Country Hotel.

Your first glimpse of it's welcoming interior will be of the elegant hallway and its dominating stained glass window. Through then into the spacious lounge, where you may wish to enjoy a relaxing time of daily reflection sipping tea by the log fire, or maybe sample something a little stronger in our fine bar.

The homely ambience continues through into each one of the 12 charmingly decorated and furnished en-suite bedrooms. All the rooms have an individual appeal and character. In keeping with a traditional country house, rooms are various sizes with many commanding spectacular views across the lake to the forest.

All our twin, double and single rooms have full tea and coffee making facilities, colour television, radio and direct dial telephones. Our mature gardens gives our guests a serene opportunity for outdoor relaxation, just sitting by our water fountain reflecting the days activities, or meander in the garden and enjoy different views of the forest, mountains & lake.

However, if you are geared more to exploration it's the ideal place; horse riding, fishing, walking, bird watching, sailing etc. are all within minutes of the hotel, we can even arrange hot air ballooning for the adventurous.

The Windermere Ferry is only minutes from the House allowing you swift access to the East of the great Lake, whilst the road North takes you straight to the heart of the very Lake District - Ambleside, Hawkshead, Coniston, Langdale, Grasmere and Keswick.

Sawrey House Country Hotel is a place you'll want to re-experience, with every aspect of your stay personally supervised by the family owners who maintain the highest standards of excellence throughout.

It was an incredibly beautiful setting and a beautiful home complete with cozy fire on a chilly evening and free internet access! It is my new standard for peace and tranquility. Great breakfast, too. My only negative was the horrible noise in the walls the toilet made when you flushed it - comes with the territory of an old building I suppose.
