Description:
About us
The Rising Sun Hotel is steeped in history with oak panelling, crooked ceilings, thick beachstone walls and creaking uneven floorboards.
It was in one of its rooms that R.D.Blackmore wrote several chapters of his West Country classic Lorna Doone.
A most interesting feature of the hotel is Shelleys Cottage (pictured left) named after the poet, it is widely believed that Percy Bysshe Shelley spent his honeymoon there with his 16 year old bride Harriet in 1812.
Shelleys Cottage has lost none of its romance and now consists of a double bedroom with half-tester bed, sitting room, private garden with quite spectacular views and is ideal for those wanting something extra special.
Location
Leave the M5 motorway at junction 23 (signposted Minehead) and follow the A39 to Lynmouth.
Alternatively leave the M5 motorway at junction 27, take the A361 to South Molton. Then follow the A399 to Blackmoor Gate. Turn right (signposted Lynmouth) and follow the A39 to Lynmouth.
Rooms
All of our rooms are comfortably appointed and possess a charm and individuality seldom found in modern hotels. Fabrics and furniture add to the olde worlde charm of a 14th century inn, while features such as TV's, telephones with data ports, hairdryers and kettles provide the modern comforts.
Many of the bedrooms have half-tester beds and were refurbished by international designer Suzanne Lansdell of "Pour La Maison" in London, combining the latest design fabrics with traditional elegance within a 14th century ambience, assuring our guests of an unforgettable romantic experience.
