Description:
Rideau Inn, c. 1916, on quiet, shady, residential Frank Street in busy downtown Ottawa, has been modernized, yet retains the charm of a century home with high ceilings, large rooms, an impressive entry foyer with back staircase and panelling and original wood accents throughout. Our Edwardian home has been decorated with antique furnishings to offer an inviting cozy retreat with historic appeal. The guest living room has cable TV/VCR, a video library, WiFi, Video library, guest phone for free local calls and a gas fireplace with carved oak mantelpiece, perfect for warming up at after a brisk skate on the nearby Rideau Canal. The formal dining room is embellished with oak floor and trim, and French doors leading from the living room. Breakfast is available here daily or may also be taken to the sunny, private, 3rd floor roof garden/deck during Ottawa's great summer weather. Our large fully equipped kitchen may be used by guests to prepare light meals or store food purchases. Seven large provincially themed guestrooms share three bathrooms off the hallways, two additional guestrooms have private en-suite baths and the 10th guestroom has a 2 piece private bath. The house is staffed daily, however the manager, Laura, lives off site so guests enjoy maximum privacy, and full use of the house, but can contact her or myself evenings through our local and toll-free numbers should the need arise.
Opposite our house is a busy, multipurpose park with a well used basketball court and free tennis courts. Just a few doors away at the corner of Frank St. and Elgin is a 2nd Cup coffee shop, and Starbucks with very busy summer patios and numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, convenience stores and night-clubs that make this area one of Ottawa's liveliest. Leave your car behind because It's only a short, scenic walk to Parliament Hill, Ottawa University, Byward Market, Sparks St. Mall, Rideau Canal, Chinatown, the Rideau Centre, National Arts Centre, Little Italy, Somerset St. gay village, cinemas, theatres, and much more. Ottawa's efficient public transit passes frequently on Elgin street connecting to all parts of the national capital.
