Description:
Ruthin Castle is magical & romantic and offers an outstanding and truly memorable touring base for Chester and North Wales. Built before 1277 by Edward I it was part of the Crown Estate until sold by Charles I and in 1826 the ‘modern’ castle was constructed.
Edward, Prince of Wales (Edward VII) made it his favourite country retreat along with the actress Lillie Langtry and Lady Randolph Churchill (Sir Winston’s mother), and HRH Prince Charles stayed on his way to his Investiture.
Close to Chester, Snowdonia and the North Wales Coast it sits on the edge of the picturesque mediaeval town of Ruthin in acres of its own parkland and gardens, and offers award-winning dining, a small fitness/beauty suite, many beautiful public rooms with chandeliers and antiques, and its world famous themed Mediaeval Banquets (which were the first ever held in Britain more than 40 years ago).
All 62 bedrooms have en-suite facilities and many have recently been refurbished to a high quality including deluxe double/twins and some feature Royal Salons named after famous guests at the castle including Lillie Langtry and the Prince of Wales.
Free car parking is on site.
