Description:
Pear Tree Cottage is about 350 years old, built using the local limestone. Situated on the High Street it is less than a minute's walk to the town square. There are two tastefully decorated double bedrooms, both en-suite with television and tea and coffee making facilities.
'Stow on the Wold where the wind blows cold' as the saying goes, but not all the time and you are always assured a warm welcome.
Stow acquired this reputation by being the highest settlement in the Cotswolds at nearly 800 feet (250 metres) above sea level. Situated on top of a hill there are wonderful views all around Stow.
With eight roads leading into Stow it became a natural meeting place for travellers and dealers passing through, where no doubt, goods and services were exchanged. To take advantage of this, Henry 1 granted a charter in 1107 for a market to be held once a week on a Thursday. This meant that now there was a certain control over the trade and people could be reasonably sure that a fair deal could be had. The cross in the Square was erected to remind people to deal fairly under the eyes of God.
