Description:
Set in the glorious Galloway countryside, surrounded by quiet lanes, hills and beaches, the Marks extends you a warm welcome in the farmhouse which dates back to the 16th century. Bed & Breakfast is Scottish Tourist Board 3 star rated.
Peaceful surroundings and an idyllic base for golfing, walking, cycling and riding. Galloway is "Scotland's best kept secret"! Kirkcudbright which is only 3 miles down the road, is a renowned artists' colony, painters being drawn by the Solway scenery and the pure quality of the light.
The Marks is a working upland farm, with dairy, beef and sheep, and now specialising in worm farming. We also offer B&B for horses, with stabling in the Victorian stables or straw courts and grazing in the house paddocks. Dumfries and Galloway is ideal for riding holidays.
The Marks, which dates back to the 16th century, is reputed to be the dower house for McLellan's Castle in Kirkcudbright. The farmhouse, with log fires roaring in the Study and Drawing room, is set in a large rambling old world garden through which you are welcome to wander. Surroundings are tranquil and peaceful, nights are stunningly starlit.
In the farmhouse we offer Bed and Breakfast, with dinner in the evening if you wish, all good home cooking using our great local produce. All accommodation is centrally heated.
You are welcome to roam the farm tracks, explore the loch and the old summer house out on the pier. We are on cycle route 7; within easy access of the Galloway hills for walkers; 3 & 5 day golf passes to around 31 local courses can be organised.
