Description:
The Lochshiel House Hotel is a family run hotel situated in Acharacle about a 100 meters from the southern tip of Loch Shiel and at the top of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. It was built in the late 19th century as a hunting lodge and still retains much of its old world charm.
The area is steeped in history as it was up Loch Shiel that Bonnie Prince Charlie sailed before landing at Glenfinnan in 1745 at the beginning of the famous Jacobite revolution.
For those of you who love the natural beauty and wildlife of the Western Highlands there is plenty to do in the area with its wonderful walks, scenic drives, beaches, boat trips and many other leisure activities including fishing, biking and kayaking.
A visit to the area can also include visits to movie locations as due to its natural beauty the area has been used in the making of many movies including Braveheart (Glencoe), Harry Potter (Glenfinnan), Rob Roy (Glen Nevis), Local Hero (Morar/Arisaig)and of course Highlander (Castle Tioram/Moidart) . Of course even more can be found with a simple trip to the Isles of Mull and Skye which are only short trips away.
Visitors to this area invariably find that they fall in love with it and return time after time
Our restaurant situated on the ground floor and open from 6 - 8.15pm (booking essential) offers a bistro style of food created by our young but highly trained chef. He constantly looks to improve the ever changing menu by sourcing new ingredients to create appetising and enticing new dishes. We offer a range of ‘made from scratch’ homemade traditional choices and use local produce when possible. This includes local organically grown salad and vegetables, locally caught fish (fresh & smoked), meats sourced both from local farms and specialist suppliers & cheese from Mull, Arran and other local farms.
Please note that the earliest arrival time for the rooms is 2pm but in winter (October to March) we are closed between 2 & 5pm Monday to Thursday (4pm on Friday) so, if you are arriving between these times please inform us or phone on arrival as someone is always here. Please also note that Orange is the only network that works in Acharacle it self. Departures are by 10am. To arrange different times if these are not convenient please ask.
Our comfortable bar is open all day from 12 noon (closed in the winter between 2 & 5pm Monday to Thursday (4pm on Friday)) where you can relax and enjoy a pint of real Scottish cask ale, a dram of our extensive range of Malts, Quality Blends or standard whisky (over 80 at present) or any of our other beverages that you can find in the bar.
Bar meals are served at lunchtime between 12 noon & 2.30pm (2pm in the winter)
Our outside decking area provides magnificent views of the loch and surrounding hills & our Beer garden has seating with views over some of the most beautiful scenery Acharacle has to offer.
