Description:
Jan Da Mar is a Georgian town house on London Road (A75) at the beginning of the commercial area of Stranraer. It was built during the reign of George IV in the years 1823-24. It was registered on the 1st of January 1825.
We have lived here since 1991. The house has been modernised but it retains such features as its ornate ceilings and a beautiful marble fireplace in the guest’s sitting room.
It is the end house of a terrace of three. They were built on the instructions of a consortium headed by a Mr Taylor, who occupied this house himself whilst the other two smaller houses went to his partners in the consortium. It was inherited by the last of the Taylors - Samuel J Taylor - of 705 Pine St, Michigan City, Indiana, who was a US Senator and sometime stalking horse candidate for the Presidency.
