City and Hotel Informations
ISTANBUL - a totally unique city experience, a city like no other in the world, joining as it does two Continents across The Bosphorus - Europe and Asia and offering a kaleidoscope of history, culture and excitement.
This magnificent city has been influenced by three tremendous civilisations - Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman each leaving its mark on the city and its people.
There is just so much to see and do for which HOTEL ALP GUESTHOUSE is ideally situated in the historical centre of Sultanahmet and just minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Aghia Sophia, the Cistern and Topkapi Palace.
Within easy reach is the Grand Bazaar and the regular tram service down to Eminönü district - where you find the ferry boats, the New Mosque, Egyptian Spice Market and the Galata Bridge over to modern Istanbul.
Amenities
ALP GUESTHOUSE is recommended by many of the popular travel guidebooks and is located in a small side street in the heart of Istanbul.
It is one of the best and offers good facilities at very reasonable cost - 14 rooms each with private shower/WC, cable TV,internet connection, small minibar ,air condition, safe in the room and central heating.
There is a small reception and a breakfast room on upstairs terrace with fine views of the Bosporus.
The prices include an excellent breakfast and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and are very used to English speaking guests.
A real home away from home!
Attractions & Activities
A must is to visit the many and varied local historical attractions literally within a few minutes of the Guesthouse. St. Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Basilica Cistern, the Hippodrome and about 10 minutes walk away the Grand Bazaar.
Or, take a taxi to Taksim Square the centre of the modern city and walk down Istikal Caddesi - a busy thoroughfare - visit the Cicek Pasaji (Passage of Flowers) then en route nearby is the famous Pera Palas Hotel built to cater for the Orient Express passengers. Ask at the Reception Desk - here you can take the cage elevator to view Ataturk's room which is now a small museum dedicated to the founder of modern Turkey.
Follow the tramway down, this ends at the Galata Tower and take one of the oldest subways in the world which brings you to the Galata Bridge. Here on the left side - you will find many fish restaurants and stalls selling fresh fish plus a hustling, bustling lively atmosphere.
Another interesting and full day is to take a boat trip on the Bosphorus. The ferry leaves from near the Eminönü end of the Galata Bridge - and weaves from Europe to Asia and back again along the Bosphorus stopping at various places en route. As a service ferry the prices is very inexpensive. Take the one which leaves about 10.30 and goes to Anadolu Kavagi on the Asian side and is as far as you can go at the entrance to the Black Sea. This is a sleepy village with many fish restaurants making it an ideal luncheon spot - there is also a castle on the hill behind the town for those who are energetic to reach it and the views. The return ferry leaves mid-afternoon.
Truly a day to remember!
