Our Hawaii B & B is located in the beautiful and tropical area of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii, 30 minutes south of Hilo and 30 minutes from the Volcanoes National Park. Our accommodations at Hale Makamae Bed & Breakfast offer the ideal place to take some time out and experience old Hawaii.
Our home is a plantation style house nestled between palms and fruit trees in the Keahialaka Rain Forest of Leilani Estates near Pahoa. We invite you to stay with us and welcome you to enjoy the Aloha Spirit of our home.
Our three beautiful guest accommodations, Makamae Studio, Garden Suite and Lanai Suite, look out into our garden of flowers, fruit trees and tropical vegitation. All of our apartments offer separate entrances and private bathrooms. Their bright, airy and spacious ambience will make your stay pleasant and comfortable.
At the end of the Chain of Craters Road, accessible from Volcanoes National Park, hot lava plunges into the ocean. It is very spectacular and especially at night you can see glowing streams following down the mountain towards the water. The area is well marked with safety signs and reflectors on the ground showing you the easiest path to walk.
Restrooms are available before, you cross the lava field towards the steam plume. In the dark you should be prepared to take a flashlight along with you, always wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.
