Description:
A guest house in the heart of Cambridge. El Shaddai is a small guest house (operating a non-smoking policy) in the very heart of the renowned city of "old Cambridge". Hosts Alf (author and raconteur) & Pauline Droy consider the comfort of their guests a priority, and their company a privilege.
To guarantee your reservation, we request payment of a deposit in advance equal to one night's stay, but the minimum length of stay that can be booked for in advance is for three nights. A three night booking attacts a discount of 5%. Our aim is to promote lengthier stays in Cambridge in order that the many tourist attractions might be more leisurely enjoyed.
In the kitchen area there is a microwave oven, a refrigerator, crockery and cutlery for clients use. You may wish to take advantage of any number of different take away food counters in East Road (5 minutes walk) or telephone for a home delivery of a pizza, Chinese, Indian or Thai meal.
Coin operated public telephone which is separate from the main business phone. The coin box number is 01223 501028.
None of the bedrooms are en-suite but all rooms have hand basins.
Tea and coffee is provided in every bedroom, all of which have a colour television set. Wireless internet access available.
Cancellations accepted if seven days notice is given. We accept cash (pounds sterling, Euro's, Dollars), personal UK cheques with guarantee card, travellers' cheques, all major credit and debit cards.
A veritable treasure trove awaits your investigation in Cambridge City, which is best explored on foot, or you may wish to use a bicycle as the "locals" do! There are two guided walking tours. One is the Christian Heritage walk. The Tourist Office organise a series of walks (eg Cambridge Ghost Walk) and you can explore these by clicking here.
Most of the colleges of Cambridge University and the main tourist attractions such as the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Botanic Gardens are located in the heart of the city, as are the social amenity centres such as the Corn Exchange, the Tourist Information Centre and the main shops. It is 10 minutes walk from El Shaddai through common land to the University boat houses; and in the opposite direction through the city centre to "the Backs" of the colleges where punting on the River Cam is a popular relaxation.
If you would like a swim or a visit to a health suite for a sauna etc. then you could visit the Parkside swimming pool, only a 5 minute walk from El Shaddai. Also nearby is the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre.
