Description:
The Collingdale in Ilfracombe is a splendid six storey Victorian guest house, beautifully situated with miles of uninterrupted views across the harbour and magnificent coastline scenery of Hillsborough Nature Reserve. We are only a few minutes walk from the beach, harbour and town centre; Lundy Island is just a short boat trip away by the supply vessel M.S. Oldenburg, with regular sailings from Ilfracombe, while the dramatic coastal and moorland reaches of Exmoor National Park are readily accessible by car. Please note that in line with new legislation we are a non-smoking establishment, but have areas outside where smoking will be allowed.
The Collingdale is tastefully furnished to a high specification and our comfortable guest lounge provides a pleasant relaxed atmosphere to sit and read, watch television or enjoy the splendid scenery. Our gallery dining room displaying original paintings by local artists, serves freshly prepared and carefully presented home cooked cuisine; using locally farmed produce as available. The dining room leads to our sun terrace over-looking the harbour where you can relax with your morning coffee or an aperitif in the evening.
Relax in our cosy bar where a good selection of beers, wines and spirits including malt whiskeys and fine brandies are available for you to enjoy. All of the nine bedrooms in this beautiful Victorian house are en-suite and furnished to a high standard with beverage making facilities, colour television, radio alarm, hairdryer and many thoughtful little extras.
Our pleasant sunny garden is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the flowers displayed in our many hanging baskets and terracotta pots and we are proud to announce that we have won first place in Ilfracombe in Bloom in both 2004 and 2005. You will find that we are family friendly and have cots and high chairs available for younger children. If you wish to book for a sports orientated break, we have special rates at some local golf courses (including Ilfracombe, Royal North Devon and Willingcott) and we are happy to book tee times on your behalf. Secure golf club storage and drying facilities are available. Sea fishing trips, which leave Ilfracombe harbour most days, can also be arranged for guests.
BEDROOMS:
All bedrooms at the Collingdale are strictly non-smoking.
We have nine bedrooms available at the Collingdale most of which have sea views, apart from the larger family rooms which enjoy views of the wooded area opposite the Entrance . They are all en-suite and furnished to a high standard. They all have beverage making facilities, colour TV, radio alarm clock & hairdryer in each room. A separate bathroom is also available.
LOUNGE:
Come and relax in our comfortable lounge which is tastefully furnished with leather settees, making it the ideal spot to sit and enjoy the spectacular sea views over the harbour and Hillsborough Nature Reserve. There are a wealth of board games and puzzles for you to enjoy or just sit and read or watch TV.
DINING ROOM:
Our spacious dining room which leads to the sun terrace also has wonderful sea views. Our delicious home cooked cuisine is freshly prepared each day using locally sourced produce wherever possible and will satisfy the heartiest of appetites. We also have a varied and reasonably priced wine list to choose from.
BAR:
Delightfully cosy and well stocked our bar provides the perfect spot for an enjoyable evening with your hosts and other guests .
DIRECTIONS & LOCATION:
Directions from M5
Junction 27 – Take A361 towards Tiverton / Barnstable.
At South Molton you will come to a roundabout – go straight across. After approximately 1 mile you will approach a second roundabout – Turn right on A399 signposted Combe Martin / Ilfracombe. After approximately 15 miles you will go through Combe Martin village. Stay on this road past Ilfracombe golf course, through Hele Bay. You will see ‘The Olde Thatched Inn’ on your left – The Collingdale is situated approximately 50 metres further on right hand side.
Directions from Barnstaple
Take A361 signposted Ilfracombe. As you come into the town you turn right at a first mini roundabout to traffic lights (Landmark DIY shop) - go straight ahead and through High Street. You come to a fork in the road – stay to the right. To traffic lights – go straight ahead. Immediately there is a parade of Victorian 4/5 storey houses on left, The Collingdale is situated towards the end.
Parking
Parking is on road outside guest house, or on long-stay car park situated at the rear of the guest house, which can be accessed via road opposite The Olde Thatched Inn.
