Description:
The estate of the Chanterelle Country Inn and Cottages bestows the tranquility of a secluded retreat. It is situated on the 'Artisans' Loop' of the Cabot Trail--the road less traveled. The Inn offers eight exquisite rooms and one two-room suite all with private baths, ceiling fans, antique furnishings, oriental carpets and original works of art. It provides the perfect setting for retreats, romantic getaways, small weddings, executive meetings and other special occasions.
The newly renovated one bedroom cottages offer housekeeping facilities, TVs and a spectacular view of the Harbour.
From the vantage point of the Inn's screened veranda and the cottages, guests can watch bald eagles soaring below or hummingbirds and chickadees darting about. From our gazebo at the shore to the nature trails through the woods, guests can appreciate the flora and the fauna of Cape Breton.
Walks on the trails throughout the 150 acre property reveal the habitats of moose, deer, songbirds, coyotes, and gray squirrels. At the shore, guests can watch gulls, kingfishers, hear the calls of the loon or take one of the pedal boats into the harbour. Along the river, oysters, salmon, mussels and clams may be found. Guests are invited to borrow from the Inn's extensive library, play chess in the Commons area, use the telescope, set-up a game of croquet or pick blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and fiddleheads in the woods---or stalk the wild fungi.
The menu of our fully-licensed dining room features 'Cape Breton Fresh' cuisine prepared in the Slow Food tradition using organic and locally grown fruits, vegetables and meats and seafood. Specialty dishes use the fragrant Chanterelle mushrooms collected on the property, lobster and crab, grass-fed Highland beef, Cape Breton Lamb and free-range chicken and eggs. Evening entrees feature vegetarian, non-vegetarian and seafood dishes. We serve Fair Trade organic coffee and teas and a variety of wines, beers, single malt scotch and other spirits.
