Description:
A warm and courteous welcome awaits you at the Black Bull, which is a STB three star Hotel. We are located one and a half miles from the A74/M74. The Black Bull's main building dates back to the 16th century. Much has happened here, in the three years 1683-1685, it was used as the headquarters for Graham of Claverhouse and his dragoons. They were sent by the then English King to ruthlessly put down the religious rebels in the South West Borders. The Hotel was also frequented by the Scottish Bard, Robert Burns, circa 1790. We serve lunches and suppers in our cosy Lounge and Burns Room or if you prefer you may have your meal in our Claverhouse Restaurant. Children are more than welcome at the Black Bull where they have their own special menu to choose from.

Our Public Bar which is situated across the Courtyard, in the old stables built by Graham of Claverhouse, houses old Railway relics and memorabilia and in particular those of the Caledonian Railway, The Railway Bar is a popular meeting place for locals, young and old, many a tale is told! All the traditional pub games; dominoes, darts, pool and a quiz machine can be played. Real Ale fanatics will be in heaven, as up to four ales are always available.

This family run Hotel has 12 fully furnished bedrooms. they all have the facilities you need for an overnight stay and are ideal for a relaxing midweek or weekend break. As you would expect, all our well-appointed rooms are en-suite, with colour TV, tea/coffee making facilities, radios, and direct dial telephones. The Black Bull was a favourite haunt of Robert Burns and his friends, and the famous "epigram to a scrimpit nature" was written by Burns whilst drinking in the Inn.
