Description:
Built in 1883, this stately Victorian house is located two blocks from the Baseball Hall of Fame. Since 1988, the Baseball Bed and Breakfast has welcomed baseball fanatics and opera aficionados. The hostess, Suzanne Rudy, maintains the bed and breakfast from Opening Day until the last game of the World Series. She prepares a full-course, homemade breakfast each morning, which is served outside on the deck. The Baseball Bed and Breakfast is a great place to plan a relaxing visit to the Home of Baseball and the Glimmerglass Opera.
As you enter the Baseball Bed and Breakfast, you encounter the grand staircase hallway lined with memorabilia, ranging from baseball photographs and posters to a letter from President Richard Nixon.
Upstairs, the hallway is reserved for the greatest of the Hall of Famers and seldom seen photos of the Negro Leagues. Mantle, Mays, Williams and Musial are among those that line the hall. The five bedrooms display memorabilia of each of the five original inductees.
One of the distinctive pieces in the Baseball Bed and Breakfast collection is a pair of original chairs from old Comiskey Park in Chicago .
Weather permitting, Suzanne serves breakfast outside on the deck, looking out to the expansive yard. The Baseball Bed and Breakfast also has a lounge chair and a hammock in a quiet, peaceful setting for guests' use during the day. For the kids, there is a basketball hoop and a swing.
