Description:
Tarry by this wayside Tavern for a Quaff of Ale and enjoy the pleasantries there-in which includes excellent cuisine, a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere with first class service and personally supervised by the proprietors, Mr & Mrs Alan Ward.
In the economic bustle of the 18th Century, Turnpike roads, supported by toll charges were constructed throughout the area. Not infrequently Taverns were built to cater for the weary traveller and provide additional income for the Toll collector.
The ground floor of the Auld Toll Tavern dates from this period
Features of particular interest are to be seen in the public bar, two exposed wall cupboards and the fireplace with its massive lintel.
Stone work in the cellars could suggest an even earlier origin, to the days of the Abbey's glory. All bedrooms are fitted with radio, colour television, shaver point, wash hand basin and tea/coffee making facilities.
