Their feeling is that a country house style can work just as well in a city street as in the middle of fields. Hence, they have decorated the house as a retreat from city life within the city, using country-house style. "For us, the house is a retreat from the crowds and commerce, the noise and excitement of city life. Our hope is that the house also fulfills this role for our guests -- an offer of comfort, rest and relaxation with a log fire to curl up in beside after a bracing walk across town or a nap on a hot summer's afternoon. Escapism, even though we are only a short walk away from midtown Manhattan. "
