Walker House
Peggy and Richard Houdek invite you to share Walker House, their historic Berkshire residence, a landmark in classic American Federal architecture, built in 1804, and now in its third decade of welcoming guests. Located near the center of the charming New England village of Lenox, Walker House offers a peaceful haven for you to enjoy the year-round activities of the Berkshire mountains.

At Walker House the atmosphere is happy and friendly. The eight spacious double bedrooms, all named and decorated for favorite composers - Mozart, Chopin, and Beethoven among them - have private baths, attractive antique furnishings and artwork. Some have fireplaces. Your delicious breakfast will be served in the large dining room where you also have an invitation to afternoon tea.

Guests are invited to enjoy the parlor, its grand piano, good books and welcome hearth, the sunny outdoor and screened verandahs, and the Walker House Cinema, where good films, operas, plays, and notable events are shown nightly on a giant twelve-foot screen.

Outside are three acres of peaceful wooded grounds, ideal for exploring, picnicking, or just relaxing. Dinner is a choice of delights, for Walker House is within walking distance of several fine restaurants.

Many people are attracted to the Berkshires as a summer center for the arts - Tanglewood, home, June through August, of the Boston Symphony; Jacob's Pillow, shrine of American dance; Berkshire Opera, the popular Berkshire Theatre Festival in nearby Stockbridge, and Williamstown Theatre festivals, the Mac-Haydn summer musical theatre, Shakespeare & Co., the Berkshire Choral Festival and a number of renowned museums and historic spots including the Norman Rockwell Museum, MassMOCA, Hancock Shaker Village, Clark Museum and Chesterwood.

For your getaway days, and for holidays, family reunions and weddings, consider Walker House in Lenox, where the air is clear and the pace a bit slower. It's less than three hours driving time and only slightly longer by Bonanza bus from New York, and even closer from Boston. Come, help us celebrate the history and charm of one of America's best-known small inns.

The building is especially lovely with wide halls and gracious a dining room, sitting room and sun porch. My husband appreciated the media room for the television etc. and the breakfast was very pleasant including fresh baked goods served at a cheerfully set table. The down side - a somewhat under- restored interior and under-updated bath facilities was tempered by the ability to bring our two small dogs. A big plus for me was the generously sized bedroom with high ceilings. Bring your own pillow - a bit short in luxury there. Our host was very pleasant and accomodating.
