Carleton Inn Bed and Breakfast
Innkeepers Phil and Sue Cox graciously welcome you to their restored 1869 Victorian home located in Portland's prestigious, historic Western Promenade neighborhood. Situated on a quiet, tree-lined street in a unique residential neighborhood of Victorian architecture, the Inn on Carleton is close to the center of downtown Portland. It's a short walk to the Portland Museum of Art, Maine Medical Center, the Performing Arts Center and the city's business district. Close at hand are Casco Bay's Calendar Islands, the international ferry to Nova Scotia, and the Old Port area with its cobbled streets, colorful shops and many fine restaurants.

We want your visit to our Inn to be relaxing, and comfortable. It is our hope that you will feel at home. The parlor is for the enjoyment of our guests, where you will find many magazines, newspapers and some interesting historical books about Portland. A basket of menus from local restaurants is available for your convenience. You may relax with a good book or just sit by the fire in the parlor and enjoy the period antiques, and the wonderful collection of clocks.

The house was a beautiful old house which was full of antiques. However some bedrooms (including ours) were in need of maintenance and there was little privacy in our room as the ensuite bathroom had a door leading on to a stairwell. Breakfast started with a delicious fruit salad but the "hot breakfast", scrambled egg and frequently burnt bacon was always produced en masse rather than individually as guests filtered in and thus was always cold. Probably ok for one or two nights but very boring for two weeks.
