There are a few places in the world that seem to demand that you just let yourself go, unbend and soar with the wind. The Edge of the World is one of them.

Tickle the eyes, spark the imagination, remember what nature and being is all about. No matter where you have lived, after spending time at the Edge of the World, you'll feel you've returned to where you started.

As the name implies, this is the edge of the world. You can view down into Kealakekua Bay where James Cook met his demise in the late 1700's and easily imagine his awe of this island and the natives' awe of him and his ship. Five acres offers the quietude one should expect in such a beautiful setting. Tropical fruit trees are there for your picking, and macadamia nut trees and coffee plants are there for my picking, but you can help if you want to. There's also a tree house in the ever-being-built stage perched in a mango tree for the young and young at heart who really want to get away.

South Kona is known for its rural flavor. People who live here call it the real Hawaii - as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Waikiki or the resorts to the north. Be sure to let me know your special interests (whale watching, kayaking, volcano watching, scuba, etc.) so that I can help you build them into your stay on the Big Island.

The Edge of the World is a modern, comfortable and tranquil bed and breakfast with amazing views down the Kona Coast and out to the Pacific Ocean. This is a boutique, upscale B&B with downscale prices. The house has various treasures from Dr. Weigelt's travels around the world, like masks from Borneo, that keep away the evil spirits and antique Asian furniture.

As your hosts are experienced world travelers themselves, they know what it's like to be on the road and offer many free services accordingly. Complimentary laundry service for stays of three days or more, free use of snorkel and beach equipment and beach towels, free use of the host's computer for a quick email check, and lots of good advice on things to see and do while you are on the Big Island can be expected.

Great snorkeling and hiking near by. A great place to catch a sunset, swim with dolphins, watch the whales, play golf, or just relax and watch the papaya grow.

Reviewed November 8, 2010 What a truly perfect place. Its only 30 minutes from Kona and a few minutes (drive) from the beach. Absolutely perfect in all ways. (Although, I would put a curtain on the skylight, I can imagine the sun waking me up in the summer :) ) The location also make sit great to visit the volcano, the lava, observatory and pretty much everything else the Big Island can offer. The hosts were fantastic and every morning we had an AWESOME breakfast. If you need to know any information about the Big Island, just ask Kurt; he's like a walking encyclopedia of the place! So, anything else to add? Well, not really. Just a highly recommended place. Two thumbs up! “A life experience more than just a B&B!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011 I've learnt more in the 4 for days spent here than in the whole 3 weeks Hawaii vacation. Learnt about Capt. Cook (I borrowed a book from the B&B shelf), had interesting conversations with the other guests, learnt about the island, the plants, and Kurt's (the owner) background through the book he left in our room (the small&cozy Nut room). I was blown away by Kurt's words, both spoken and in paper, rich and informative, as he manages to convey a rare sense of measure, a common quality to whoever uses both brain and hands in their life. Reminded me of my father and told him, I just wish my father moved to Hawaii too tough ;)!!! Back to earth: breakfast was good, atmosphere is relaxed, so is the red cat O.J., location and weather fantastic, we had Internet wireless connection in the room and worked fine, the road to the Edge is a bit tricky but if you are from Europe and used to the narrow roads it is

“A Wonderful B&B and Hosts at Capt Cook” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2007 1 person found this review helpful The Edge of the World B&B is hosted by Kurt and Kana Weigelt at the 1000' level above Kealakekua Bay in Capt Cook. I have stayed there several times and they have become family for me. Kurt runs the organic coffee and mac nut orchards surrounding the property in addition to providing guests with old fashioned hospitality. This is a laid back place with magnificent vistas, exceptionally clean rooms, and wonderful breakfasts served on the deck. Also available are a kayak, beach chairs, mats/towells, and snorkel gear for guests to use.

“Can't beat the hospitality"” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2011 My wife and I have been to The Edge 2 years in a row. Not only are the owners/family superb hosts but you cannot duplicate the view. If you are looking for activities or just relaxation, I recommend this B&B without hesitation. It may be the only place we will stay whenever we go back to the Big Island.

“Loved our stay!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2012 Kurt and family were extremely friendly and accommodating. We loved the room, the view and the whole house. We brought our two young kids and they felt comfortable roaming the grounds and enjoyed playing with Kurt's daughter Jenna. The breakfast was excellent, featuring fresh fruit and a variety of main dishes. Kurt was an excellent tour guide, offering great insights into local activities as well as a botanical tour of his property. We stayed in the "crow's nest" and had a wonderful view of the Kona coastline. We would recommend the Edge to everyone and hope to return someday! “A really wonderful taste of Hawaii” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2012 We have stayed here four times and love it at "The Edge". It is a working coffee and macadamia farm in the Kona Coffee Belt giving such a sweet feel of Old Hawaii. Oh, did I mention that it has an absolutely killer ocean view from the lanais! Kealakekua Bay and Two Step Beach is close for kayaking, snorkeling and just watching the dolphins (and a kayak is available for guests from this B&B.....no charge). The City of Refuge is close by too as well as the ever popular Coffee Shack restaurant and other great eats (like the Manago Hotel's famous pork chops). Kurt & Kanae, our host & hostess, have always been very friendly with many interesting conversations and know the Big Island's "must see" places. They even had great suggestions for staying on the Hilo side of the island. The bed was very comfortable and the quiet was refreshing after the bustle and fun in Kona town too. We always recommend "The Edge" to
