Wessex Royale Hotel
The Wessex Royale Hotel is a delightful Georgian building, built in 1756 following a similar design to that of John Wood's Royal Crescent in Bath. As you would expect this classical Georgian building has a Grand Staircase, panelling and fireplaces in abundance.

The Hotel has a superb lounge with an open fire where guests can relax with a drink from the bar.

Our á la carte, award winning restaurant is open from 6.30pm each evening.

The Wessex Royale offers two spacious air conditioned conference rooms. The Williams Barnes Room seats 100 Theatre Style, 40 U-Shaped or 40 Boardroom Style whilst The Regency Room seats 40 Theatre Style, 20 U-Shaped or 20 Boardroom Style. If the William Barnes room is not in use on the day of your booking we will automatically upgrade you to the William Barnes Room.

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of town, close to all the amenities. However parking is something of a problem. We found the decor a bit dated but had the usual facilities. Breakfast was adequate, nothing special.

Would not hesitate to stay here again, a clean room with all the usual facilities, a good breakfast and friendly service.

Great Hotel in fantastic location. We booked a double room but were upgraded to a Superior room and it was lovely. Paneling on walls, comfortable bed, clean and spacious. Had read other reviews saying some things were not good but didn't find anything to complain about. Hot water all the time, great shower and bathroom. Breakfast top notch - selection of fruit, croissants and cereal and also full english or kippers or smoked salmon and scrambled egg - what ever you wanted really. Had room at front of hotel but not much noise from main road as they have just put sound proofed glass in the windows - not double glazing as it is a grade 2 listed building - but we found this was fine with us. We liked the period features of this hotel and will be coming back again soon. Car park is small so we parking in the "Top O' Town" car park a few minutes walk away - which was no problem and the charges are very reasonable. Is a long stay car park and can park overnight at on 50p from 7pm-8a
