Waterside, Kendal

The guesthouse is set in a Victorian house above Kendal and is ideally located for exploring the beautiful Lake District and north west coastline. From the Midlands it is an easy 2 hour drive. Kendal is about 7 miles from M6 junction 36. There are fantastic views across Kendal and the fells and at the rear there is lovely woodland teeming with wildlife from which you can walk onto the fells and enjoy breathtaking views across the Lake District.

Kendal itself is a busy market town within walking distance of the hotel (worth noting, the return walk to the hotel is via some very steep hills). There is a fantastic art gallery, theatre, cinema and castle in Kendal and many shops, including familiar high street names. For bookworms there are two great bookshops.

There are lots of restaurants catering for egetarians in Kendal, however it was difficult finding food for a vegan. The hotel also runs a waterside café in the centre of Kendal which does a good range of vegan and vegetarian food but during the day only.

The hotel provides a breakfast and evening meal, if required. We found that an evening meal is not necessarily provided every night (check with hotel). The food was excellent, very tasty and imaginative. The Guesthouse provided soya milk, cream, yoghurt, ice cream. Each of the dishes was well thought out and there were some nice desserts, including a vegan crumble (makes a change from fruit salad!).

There were a range of vegan wines and beers also available. The menu for the evening meal was set by the hotel so it is worth mentioning if there are any foods you dislike. A particular highlight of our stay were the fabulous muffins provided for breakfast (yes, vegan muffins). The hotel rooms were very clean and comfortable; it is worth asking for a room with a view if you decide to stay as you won’t want to stop gazing at the scenery.
