Tigh Na Geald
Tigh na Geald is a beautiful Victorian Lodge situated in the middle of the village of Aboyne in the heart of Royal Deeside. The house affords lovely views over the Green to the hills beyond. Aboyne and its surroundings have much to offer to the visitor. There are many castles to visit all within easy driving distance of Aboyne. There are also whisky distilleries to explore many of which are situated in outstanding countryside. Golf, fishing, hill walking, mountaineering and skiing are all also within close driving distance.

Tigh na Geald - or House on the Hill - is a beautiful Victorian house overlooking the village green in the centre of Aboyne on Royal Deeside. With Aberdeen and Balmoral only 30 minutes away on either side, it is the perfect base for visiting the many attractions of the area. Among them the Royal Estates, the many historic castles and whisky distilleries seem to be favourite but the ancient university city of Aberdeen, now the oil capital of Europe is also fascinating. The location of the house is very well situated, set back from the road, looking south across the village to the hills beyond.
The house is a family home welcoming visitors mainly in the summer but rooms are available on request all year round . It is run by the owners, Julia and Kit Chambers. Breakfast is served at any time to suit the guests and evening meals and packed lunches are also available on request. Guests are encouraged to use the house as their own home during their stay. Children are welcome and also animals by arrangement. There is a large garden and ample parking space for cars.

Tigh na Geald is within walking distance of the shops, pubs and restaurants of Aboyne. There are many beautiful walks and serious climbs surrounding the village. Advice and guided tours are available for all categories. The village has a fine 18 hole golf course, a thriving water skiing club on Aboyne Loch and the gliding club at the airstrip is world famous. There are 2 ski stations within 40 minutes drive. Stalking, shooting and fishing by arrangement.

Whether you want, simply, to absorb the beauty and history of the place or to get active, there is something for everybody at Tigh na Geald. The house is in the centre of Aboyne on the A93 between Aberdeen and Braemar. As you approach the village green look out for the house standing on a small hill to the right coming from Aberdeen and the left coming from Braemar. The house name is easily seen at the gate.

Our first trip to Scotland, our 26 anniv. We arrived to total darkness, waited 6 or 7 min. for the door to be answered. We were told we needed to pay cash, as soon as we got there(via a email two weeks before we got there) to simplify things for the house boy, who was now in charge. We never even made it two steps in the door before we were asked for that! Owners not there. No lock on our door, and our bed had an old electric blanket under the sheet? It was lumpy and the plug was in my back all night. The heat was not on anywhere and we had to asks to have it on,both nights. Also,no heat in the guest living room! The towel warmers in bath didn't work. There was no one who could direct us on things to see and do, as the website said. WE came a long way for a special trip, and found out of all the lovely b and b's stayed at over 17 days-this totally missed the mark! Breakfast was miserable-toast served cold. Yogurt, I had, was rancid. Most expensive as well! Don't bother!

We came a long way (from Canada) for a family wedding and were worried about what a B&B in Scotland would be like for our all-important long weekend with our long lost family! We need not have worried. It was above average on all counts. The owners could not have been nicer and the accommodation supremely comfortable. It was hard work getting through the huge and varied breakfasts with such generous portions but we did our best. The wedding was and reunion was a huge success and Tigh na Geald played a very large part in making it so. Thank you.

So now we are home, time to say thank you to Tigh na Geald owners for the highlight of our stay in Scotland. The welcome we received was wonderful and the rooms and breakfast superb. We used Tighna Geald as a base for our adventures into the Highlands in not very good weather - and it became like home. Our wet clothes were dried out in the kitchen and our tired bodies warmed up in huge bathtubs. This is B&B as it should be all over the world. Better than a hotel. A luxurious home from home.

I came on a business visit to check out this B&B for our business guests in the future. The owners did not know this was my purpose but I can say that this is among the best B&B's I have experienced anywhere in Scotland. The house is gorgeous and stuffed with antiques and the owners warm and friendly with always, apparently, time to spare to chat about the local district. Breakfasts are beautifully prepared and laid out . The rooms are superb - luxurious at the expensive end and extraordinarily comfortable at the cheaper end. The house is spotlessly clean and although it is an old Victorian house, it was always kept warm for guests. A nice touch are special extension leads for mobile phone and camera battery charging. The pot of tea and cake was very welcome and certainly did not appear on any bill. Well done Tigh na Geald - gets my vote any day.

Not sure why this B&B has 5 stars. Our room was pleasant, but cold and had a forest of extension cables to all electrical equipment. Shower was of the hand held variety in the bath which is inadequate for this star-rating. Breakfast was a complete disaster. Having given our requests the previous day, we were asked three further times while waiting at the breakfast table, and still the order was incorrect and overcooked when it arrived. The worst was yet to come - the bill. £90 for the two of us. We are happy to pay for quality and service, but sadly, this experience lacked both. We felt we had been ripped off.

I stayed at Tigh Na Geald for 3 nights with one of my sons. It was a good place to stay once we found it. It took us one and a half hours to do so once we arrived in Aboyne. I didn't have the Ballater Rd address, just the name of the house and owners and their phone number. (They were out when we phone and also when we finally arrived) Otherwise the stay was very pleasant and I could recommend it.

It was for family wedding we decided to stay at Julia and Kit's beautiful home, they made the it all a totally wonderful stay. Julia made it possible for, four generations to stay together, and made it a really family affair. At a posssible stressful time it was very relaxed and made our son's wedding just perfect.

Nice old house though hard to find as it didn't have a sign and it was dark when I got there. The room was comfy and clean but didn't have a lock on the door and had a shared bathroom. Breakfasts were cooked to order and very tasty ... taken at a communal table. Hosts were pleasant, though stressed and snappy with each other at times. Overall a reasonable stay but unfortunately ruined when I came to leave. As a single person I expected to pay the Single Person rate quoted on the website but was charged double!! because they were busy ... was that my fault? Really spoilt the stay so check the rate you'll pay and preferably get it in writing.

Very welcoming and hospitable hosts who went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay.Booked in Dec 2008 for our weekend in Aug 2009 or a family wedding and Julia Chambers kept in touch all throughout that period to ensure all requirements were met. By the way this is the 3rd time you have asked for feedback which I have already responded to.

The B&B is nice though we had asked for an early check-in as we had to go to a wedding that day and were told the room would be available and when we got there it wasn't. The owner was not apologetic about it and tried to get us to stay in a twin room which wasn't ensuite. After we got the double room we had booked, the rest of the visit was very nice. Just a note though that the double room has an attached bath tub but no shower so if you need a shower then you have to use the shower which is shared with other guests - this was a bit of a surprise as I have not come across this before.
