The Old School was built in 1866 and remained a school until 1963. It has now been converted into guest accommodation with 3 ensuite rooms, 1 single, 1 Queen, 1 Super-king double/twin.
We are situated in the unspoilt tranquil village of Newbiggin just 4 miles west of Penrith, 3/4 of a mile off the A66 trans-pennine route and 2 3/4 miles from Junction 40 on the M6, useful for a stopover to & from Scotland. We offer discounted rates on all rooms from two/five-day breaks and a weekly rate. Rates negotiable for longer stays. We are open all year with the exception of two weeks over the Christmas season.
The house is fully carpeted and centrally heated. We have a library of books and games which you can enjoy while you visit. There is a guest dining room that can be used to play cards, chess, dominoes, or just read, when not serving meals. In the summer, seating is provided on the paved terrace in the garden to enjoy.
The Queen Room
This is a cosy ground floor bedroom in deep rose, pink and cream, with a queen - sized bed, a settee and table for ease of comfort to watch T.V. and drink tea which is provided on a hospitality tray. There is also a fridge for your use. The en-suite contains a bath with shower, sink, toilet, with towels, bath robes, and a basket of toiletries provided.
The Single Bedroom
This is a downstairs bedroom. It is a crisp clean green and gold room with a metric single bed (ideal for the taller person). This room has a chair, table T.V. hospitality trays of tea, coffee. There is also a fridge for your use. The en-suite is a fully tiled shower room with toilet, sink and towels. A towelling robe and toiletries provided.
Super-King/Twin Room
This is an upstairs bedroom, a sunny gold/blue room with twin beds that converts to a super-king double. This room has three windows and overlooks the garden and fields beyond. The room contains chairs, tables, T.V. and hospitality tray of tea and coffee. There is also a fridge for your use. The en-suite contains a Victorian bath, double corner shower, with sink and toilet, towels and a basket of toiletries, with bath robes provided

We are situated in The Eden Valley only 4 miles from Lake Ullswater. There you can fish, sail, canoe, windsurf, hike and much, much more. Nearby is The Rheged Centre for exhibitions, films, shopping, dining, children's play area's inside and out.
