Pear Tree Cottage is situated in the Blackdown Hills designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are in a very quiet rural location in the bottom corner of Somerset close to the Devon border. The hills are laced with narrow unspoilt roads and lanes with hedgerows abounding in natural flora and fauna. There are many footpaths and the area is ideal for the walker.
Pear Tree Cottage with its traditional colourful border garden with croquet lawn, and kitchen garden, providing seasonal vegetables, together with a newly developed arboretum - 3.5 acres overall - is in the middle of it all.
We let a family suite and a separate double and single room. When the double is booked first we do not then let the single to a stranger so that guests can enjoy private use of the facilities. We can and do sometimes accommodate two children in the single room either sharing a four foot bed or by adding a folding bed. It is not unknown for two adults to share the bed as well in full knowledge beforehand. Not many cats can be swung but it is cosy!
The family suite has a six foot double which unzips to two three foot singles when required and there is a separate room which has to be passed through to get to the en-suite bathroom beyond. It is large enough to take another single as well. A cot and high chair is available.
All rooms have TV and tea/coffee making facilities. On a daily basis all that is needed is 24 hours notice, sometimes less, as to whether guests are in or out for the evening meal. There is also a large conservatory/garden room and a seperate summer house available for relaxation and almost al fresco meals if preferred.The conservatory double glazing produces wonderful reflections for candlelit dinners in the darker months.
