Summer Lodge
Summer Lodge Hotel Dorchester, only two and a half hours away from London, is a beautiful 5 star, pet friendly manor house built in 1789 right in the heart of Thomas Hardy's Dorset - who himself designed the Drawing Room and Master Bedroom. A former dower house to the Earl of Ilchester and now a beautiful country house hotel with twenty-four individually designed bedrooms providing our guests with both comfort and the feeling of home from home.

Enjoy the refined British cuisine of the Dining Room for lunch and dinner or a classic Dorset afternoon cream tea by the cosy fire in the drawing room. A network of fine walks, including the deer park of the Ilchester Estate, may be taken from the doorstep of the hotel.

Nearby Attractions:

Within easy reach is the rugged Dorset coast along with the many grand and stately homes such as Athelhampton and Montacute with a Medieval Castle at Sherborne nearby.
There are miles of public footpaths and plenty of quiet country lanes to explore (Wellingtons, cycles, and picnics available from the hotel), and a 16th-century coaching inn, The Acorn Inn that features in Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Many footpaths take you into the neighbouring 9,000-acre Melbury Estate.
Nearby, you'll find opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and golf. If you prefer sports that go with a bang, we can arrange shooting parties, clay-pigeon shooting or paintballing.

Watersports enthusiasts should head for Weymouth (40 minutes) for sailing, windsurfing, surfing, water skiing and scuba diving, as well as fly fishing and sea fishing. This is the venue for the watersports events at the 2012 Olympic Games.
