Smallwood House Hotel takes pride in offering quality service in a friendly environment. This 4 star, pet friendly guest house is right in the centre of Ambleside. With our private car park you are able to leave your car safely and enjoy the scenery on foot or bicycle.
All of our 12 rooms are en-suite, with under-floor heating and are fully tiled. All rooms are decorated and furnished to a high standard.
Family rooms are available and groups can also be accommodated in twin and triple rooms.
Our two single rooms are great favourites. The morning sun fills the room with a warm glow and helps you start the day with a sunny warm feeling. The view of Wansfell, gives you the incentive to pull on your boots and get out onto the fells for the day.
The Smallwood Hotel is happy to help with any special requests you may have. Why not treat that someone special to flowers and champagne on arrival? We will be happy to arrange this for you.

We have a private car park behind the hotel, which is used exclusively for our guests.
We offer complimentary wifi access throughout the hotel for our guests.
We can make up packed lunches for your day out,
In the lounge, guests can play games, chat together, read from our selection of local books or simply relax.
Pets are welcome, and many return with their owners year after year.
Colour TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, clock radios and hairdryers and are fully central heated.
Hotel Policies:
A non-refundable deposit for the cost of the first night's accommodation is required to confirm all bookings.
We accept payment by credit or debit card. Please note that payment by credit card attracts a surcharge of 4%. We are still quite happy to accept personal cheques.
Cancellation
In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your booking more than 21 days before your arrival date you will lose your deposit, but you will not be charged for the remainder of your booking. However, where possible we will be happy to transfer your deposit to a booking made no more than 6 months in advance.

By Car from the South
Following the M6 Junction 36 then follow A591 to Ambleside, follow the one way system through the town Compston Road is part of the A591. We are situated on the right hand side approximately half way up.
By car from the north
M6 Junction 40 then follow directions for Keswick turn left on to the B5322 signposted Threlkeld to join the A591 direction for Windermere follow this road past Grasmere and Rydal and arrive in Ambleside. Follow the one way system round in the right hand lane. The Smallwood is situated half way up Compston Road on the right hand side.
Trains to Windermere and a connecting bus or Taxi to Ambleside.
