Welcome to the website of The Royal Oak, a historic 17th Century coaching inn offering excellent value food and accommodation in the heart of the Eden Valley. Whether you are looking for a one-night stopover as you enjoy the Pennine Way or Settle-Carlisle railway, a base for a family holiday or an inspirational venue for a business seminar, we can help.

In addition to our guest accommodation, we have a charming 2-bedroom stone cottage for those who prefer to self-cater and run to their own schedule on their holidays, not far from a cosy real ale pub.

Our recently refurbished restaurant offers a menu of regularly-changing seasonal specials, using the finest ingredients from local suppliers, and can accommodate up to 60 diners for a special occasion.

Guest accommodation at The Royal Oak Hotel comprises nine bedrooms ­ a mix of doubles, twins, singles and family rooms ­ all with private baths or showers. All rooms are decorated in a rustic style ­ some with exposed beams and original brickwork ­ and have televisions and tea and coffee making facilities. We pride ourselves on preparing a full English breakfast that is second to none, using the finest local ingredients, and, located as we are in beautiful walking country and close to the Pennine Way, we also offer mouth-watering packed lunches.

All rooms are bookable by the night all year round, but please check our special offers page for our regularly-changing seasonal offers and make sure to book early in high season and at festival time. Families and pets are always welcome. The pub also has recently-refurbished meeting rooms for up to 20 people available by the day or half day at delegate rates and can accommodate 60 people for lunch or dinner by arrangement.

Kyle and Jan are dedicated to offering the best fresh food with local ingredients at reasonable prices. Head Chef Ian Douthwaite trained at the famous Sharrow Bay Hotel on Ullswater and his Oak Steak and Ale Pie, made with hand-diced beef from Ewbanks in Appleby, is already a local favourite. Constantly-changing specials include an excellent fish menu and a choice of luscious homemade deserts.
