Port Askaig Hotel is a picturesque, family run Highland Inn on the shores of the Sound of Islay, overlooking the pier at which daily car ferries berth on arrival from the Scottish mainland. Due to its proximity to the ferry, it offers easy access to Jura, Colonsay and the mainland.
Our Starboard Restaurant offers Bistro style dining, with a full meal service in both bars and hot snacks available out with main meal times.Fresh seafood our speciality. Old Port Bar is the oldest licensed premises on Islay and features an excellent selection of Islay Malts and a display of old and rare bottles.

In summer, sailings to Isle of Colonsay on Wednesdays only with CAL MAC are popular and as the route goes on to Oban on that day visitors can use this as an alternative route when leaving the island.

Hotel Policies:

We are strictly non-smoking and reserve the right to charge the equivelant of one extra nights accommodation where smoking in rooms is reported by staff. Deposits will be refunded in full or in part where reasonable notice is given. This does not apply to bank holidays or the whisky festival when a minimum of 2 weeks notice of cancellation is required

Directions:

From Glasgow there is a direct flight twice or three times daily depending on season. This service is operated by Flybe and takes around 35 minutes. If travelling by road you should allow at least three hours from Glasgow taking the M8 west bound over the Erskine Bridge crossing the River Clyde and taking the west bound A82/A83 to Campbeltown.Caledonian MacBrayne ferries ply between Kennacraig and Islay 3/4/5 times a day in summer season. The ferry terminal of Kennacraig is approx 4 miles south of the village of Tarbert Loch Fyne on the road to Campbeltown. All ferry sailings from the mainland to Islay will arrive at Port Askaig after 26th March 2011 due to the alternative port being repaired. Buses also run from Glasgow Buchanan Street Station to the ferry terminal.

Nearby Attractions:

Both Caolila and Bunnahabhain Malt whisky distilleries are nearby (1 mile and 4 miles) Finlaggan the ancient seat of the Lords of the Isles is also less than 3 miles away.The other distilleries are between 12 and 15 miles distance. The Isle of Jura of Orwell fame is accessed by a small car ferry which docks just outside the hotel at the small harbour. No need to book for this sailing. Islay has an working woolen mill, small art/photo galleries less than 8 miles distant. Excellent walking or cycling is available right from our back door.
Bird watching (sea eagles nest near us) sea angling loch fishing
are all within easy reach and we can help organise if so wished.
