The Uists have outstanding opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts. Sea birds, waders corncrakes and birds of prey can all be seen. Visits to Balranald RSPB and Loch Druidibeg National Nature Reserve are highly recommended.
Uist supports a large population of otters that can regularly be observed as can seals that are often seen swimming close to the shore or basking on the rocks
Anglers are also well catered for with over 400 lochs containing Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon that may be fished on day or weekly permit.
The Uists are also an excellent cycling destination with many visitors choosing to cycle the entire length of the Western Isles. If you like to take it a bit easier then there are many deserted beaches, ideal for quiet romantic walks. There are ample areas to walk on but if you like the walk mapped out for Monty Halls, Great Escapes Six favourite walks is an excellent guide.
The Southern Isles also have many cultural & historic sites of interest.
