North West Castle Hotel
North West Castle opened its doors to guests in 1962 and has played an active part in the life of the town of Stranraer ever since. Renowned for the warmth of its welcome, guests return to the "Castle" as to an old friend. This popular hotel overlooks the bay and ferry terminal. Public areas include an elegant dining room where a pianist plays during dinner, and an adjoining lounge with large leather armchairs and blazing fire in season. Bedrooms are well equipped and many are very spacious. The Residents Lounge commands views of the whole length of Loch Ryan, and in the original windows little apertures on hinges can still be found, through which a telescope could be inserted, giving a clear view of the shipping on the loch.

The Ross Bar is a relaxing and convivial place to enjoy a pre dinner drink as you study the evening's menu. This fascinating room, built as a facsimile of Sir John Ross's cabin on the Victory, was originally used by him to demonstrate polar navigation to his guests.

The Regency Dining Room is both spacious and elegant, with professional and friendly staff. Dinner is the highlight of the evening, and most guests enjoy dressing for the occasion.

Our pianist plays your requests during dinner and, on Saturdays throughout the Winter, dinner is followed by dancing in the Ballroom. Sunday Lunch is also a great tradition at North West Castle, popular with both residents and local people.

Great reception, friendly helpful staff, clean, oldy worldy, but too much rich food, so ensure if you are db&b you are starving hungry before you eat...Tea & Coffee I would have in the lounge area by the fire with your dessert as I did, wear loose fitting clothes on your bottom half & enjoy the pianist in the restaurant

I made the original info request for my elderly parents who stayed Sunday 3rd to Friday 8th August. We would not stay there again, it was very antiquated and very expensive for two people in their 80's. Their total bill came to over £600 and I have to say I was quite embarassed at having recommended the hotel
