Gwrach Ynys is an Edwardian Country House, originally built as a gentleman’s residence at the turn of the previous century by a local farmer. The house was adapted twenty years ago, to a very high standard, to meet the aspirations of today’s discerning guests whilst retaining many of its original features. A warm welsh welcome at Gwrach Ynys is assured by Gwynfor and Deborah who have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the globe into their home for the last 24 years.
The house is set in open countryside, two miles to the north of the historic town of Harlech, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the Snowdonia National Park. Gwrach Ynys is situated in a splendid location, nestled between the Rhinog mountains and the sandy beaches of the Cardigan Bay. The house is surrounded by over an acre of lawned gardes with mature trees, from where guests can enjoy panoramic views from the summit of mount Snowdon to the north to Harlech Castle to the south.
Accommodation
The accommodation consist of six en-suite bedrooms – two double, one twin, three family rooms - two to sleep 3 and one to sleep 4, and a single room, which is not en-suite but does have a private bathroom. The bedrooms are all decorated to the highest standard, and are individually furnished to create that home from home feeling you will find throughout the house. From each bedroom guest can enjoy rural views over the garden to the fields and hills beyond. Cleanliness and guest comfort is of prime important and each bedroom is well appointed with, colour TV, tea making facilities, hair dryers and clock radio plus other little extras.
The house is roomy and spacious with a choice of two comfortable lounges for guests to relax and unwind, and a separate breakfast room. Breakfast is served between 8am and 9am but if you would like an earlier breakfast just let us know. Deborah offers a wide selection of dishes on the menu and all prepared using the very best local welsh produce whenever possible. For the comfort of all our guests, the house is non smoking, but guests who enjoy the odd puff are welcome to do so in the garden. There is ample parking space at the side of the house and free wireless internet connection for those who like to keep in touch.
The local area
Gwrach Ynys could not be in a better location to sample the attractions of North Wales. Harlech Castle is just down the road and Portmeirion, the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Railway are fifteen minutes away. Within an hours drive we have Bala, the Lleyn Peninsula, and the Isle of Anglesey.
We have one of the world’s finest beaches five minutes down the road, at Harlech, with 3 miles of golden sands.
The Royal St David’s Golf Club provides a championship class course for the golfers.
The area is a haven for walkers of all abilities; the Rhinog Mountains form the backbone to the locality with a variety of walks to get you away from the crowds. The challenge of Snowdon and the other high mountains lie a half hour away. Gwynfor and Deborah know the mountains well and are always willing to advise on routes. Gentler estuary walks can be accessed across the fields from our house.
