Golden Lion Hotel
A well-located base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Golden Lion has 15 en-suite rooms and a restaurant with extensive menus. There is a lift to all floors, and many rooms have been specially adapted for disabled guests. The Hotel is noted for its freshly prepared food of local origin.

The Golden Lion restaurant is decorated with Dales murals by local artist Lynn Foster, and offers both A la Carte and Table d'Hote menus. Vegetarian and other diets are well catered for. There is an extensive wine list. The Hotel also has a banqueting suite for events and conferences.

The fully licensed bar has oak panelling and comfortable seating. It offers a wide selection of drinks. Informal snacks and afternoon teas are available in the bar.

The Hotel's bedrooms have views over Leyburn and across to the racehorse training gallops of Middleham. All rooms have television, telephone, radio, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The Golden Lion is well placed for local attractions such as Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned, Jervaulx Abbey, Masham with its Brewery Centres, and Richmond with its castle high above the River Swale. York, Harrogate and Ripon are easily reached.

There was a problem with the booking when we arrived but the management worked really hard to resolve the difficulty. The location of the hotel was ideal - right on the market square and we would have to commend the standard of customer care that we received. The Golden Lion is under relatively new mangagement and they are obviously trying to place their own stamp on the site. Many of the rooms have been recently refurbished and the autographed sporting photographs add a quirky and interesting touch.

Very comfortable room - well equipped and quiet. Very conveniently placed in centre of town and good parking.

The staff are friendly and the sheets and towels were clean and white. The hotel is tired and would benefit from being refurbished. The breakfast was o.k. We stayed one night as were attending function nearby.
